Gutenberg? As in Johannes Gutenberg?

He changed the world when he invented the printing press. Which is one of the reasons why the Gutenberg editor is named after him. But what exactly is Gutenberg?

The Gutenberg WordPress editor is a new page builder that is being designed to integrate with WordPress core.

It’s big. It moves the WordPress ecosystem forward, but it also moves the whole web forward. Which is scary! Because change always is, and this is a big one. But a scary thing is usually a thing that leads to growth, if you can push through it.

I am still a bit skeptical about it but I’m confident that the developers behind it are going to do a great job. It is going to be hard at first – every big change is. But it is high time for WordPress’ visual editor to be updated. Honestly, I am not entirely comfortable with it not because it will deviate from the norm but because of the learning curve for clients and it might spell nightmare for sites who are currently using a page builder.

You can test out Gutenberg right now – it is in active development so I suggest you not use it on a live site. You can download it as a plugin here.
